Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Miaoshan, Mishan County, Heilongjiang. It was named by Qu Guansheng et al. in 1981.


Lithology and Thickness

A suite of clastic rock and volcanic tuff units. Lower part consists of conglomerate, sandy conglomerate and lithic sandstone. Middle part, acid and intermediate tuffs interbedded with tuffaceous slate, silty slate and lithic feldspar-rich sandstone. Upper part is dominated by tuffaceous slate, interbedded with lithic sandstone and lithic feldspar-rich sandstone, and intercalated with tuffs. The formation is 839.3 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Uncertain: The bottom boundary is unclear. Next older regional unit is early-Carboniferous Kunaerhe Fm.

Upper contact

Conformable contact with the overlying Zhenzishan Fm

Regional extent

Distributed in Zhenzi, Laohei and Qiliga mountains of Mishan County and Lanhuadingzi, Qinglongshan, etc., of Baoqing County
